Gender justice video screened at UN General Assembly

24 September 2013

On 24 September, a Women’s Initiatives gender justice video was screened at the UN General Assembly during a high level panel on the introduction of a new declaration to end sexual violence in conflict. The Declaration, developed by the UK, as a part of their Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI), along with a number of governments representing a cross-regional alliance,  is intended to strengthen the global commitment to preventing and prosecuting those responsible for crimes of sexual violence committed during armed conflicts.

The video is one of a series of gender justice films developed by the Women’s Initiatives and more than 30 of our local partners to support our conflict-based domestic advocacy programmes supporting access to justice, accountability for gender-based crimes, and the inclusion of women as stakeholders in post-conflict peace and recovery processes.

These films were co-produced by the Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice and our local partners in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, the Central African Republic, Kenya and Kyrgyzstan, in collaboration with WITNESS.
