Central African Republic
January 2005, the Prosecutor of the ICC receives a letter from the Government of the Central African Republic (CAR) referring the situation of crimes within the jurisdiction of the Court committed in the CAR since 1 July 2002, the date of entry into force of the Rome Statute.
Since receipt of the referral, the Prosecutor has been conducting an analysis of the situation in the CAR.
The few human rights reports available on the situation in the Central African Republic indicate the widespread commission of rape during the period of political unrest.
To date a formal investigation by the ICC has not been opened.
