Fatou Bensouda – next Chief Prosecutor of the ICC

On Wednesday 30 November, the President of the Assembly of States Parties announced that there was now a strong consensus in favour of Fatou Bensouda as the next Chief Prosecutor of the ICC.  The other finalist, Mr Mohamed Othman, reportedly withdrew his candidacy on Wednesday when it became clear that consensus had consolidated behind Fatou Bensouda.

President Wenaweser is expected to recommend Ms Bensouda as the formal nominee for the post of Chief Prosecutor at a meeting of States Parties in New York on 1 December.
